Conception

 

Terra was conceptualized for a dear friend who lives in the Southwest and has a modern, clean aesthetic and a love of desert colors. I first drew out a selection of succulents whose shapes and colors were striking to me. I then broke them down into geometric paper piecing segments and played with the colors and angles that would work well together. Once the design came together, I selected a color scheme that modernized the traditional Southwestern palette. Finally, I used quilting as a design element to place the plants into hanging terrariums.

Creation

Terra was designed by hand and on Adobe Illustrator. I used Kona Cotton Solids by Robert Kaufman for all fabric elements, Warm & Natural batting, and Aurifil thread to piece and quilt.

Life Outside the Studio

​

Terra now hangs in a private home in San Antonio, Texas. Patterns are available for sale in my shop.
